Thoughts on the way from Fischingen to Steg

Diary of the Pilgrim James

The crossing over the Hörnli certainly requires additional effort, but is rewarded with a magnificent view of Eastern Switzerland, the Black Forest, and the rest of the pilgrimage route. More strongly than ever, I hear the quiet voice urging me to give up. And really: who is forcing me to go on a pilgrimage? No one – except my will, which is fueled by a strange need for peace, solitary hikes, chance encounters with people, animals, and nature. So, yes! I pull myself together, try to forget the blisters on my feet, and instead refresh myself with a simple but tasty meal at the inn.

A long road ahead of me

Food for thought

What I particularly appreciate along the way are the "small" encounters that allow me to discover my own spirituality along the way. These include, for example, striking faces, rare flowers, special stones, flower-covered windows, and village fountains, but sometimes also the happy and anxious voices of children playing, which allow me to discover my own spirituality along the way.

Amidst many unresolved questions, keep the hunger and thirst for justice alive in the powerful certainty: with God, I can leap over walls. Pause, be blessed each day anew.
