Ballenberg Open-Air Museum
The museum aims to show Switzerland as it once was, even during the time of large numbers of pilgrims. It provides insights into history, living, and working. At least eight of the 30 traditional crafts are demonstrated daily.
The animals that pilgrims used to travel with can also be admired in the open-air museum.
Groups have the opportunity to get involved themselves. Why not carve an animal yourself as a personal souvenir of a pilgrimage?

From May 15, 2017, until the end of the year, the open-air museum will offer all pilgrims a generous discount on admission. Until now, the Way of St. James, on the Brünig to Brienz leg, led along unobtrusive roads from Brienzwiler to Hofstetten, directly along the border of this picturesque and expansive cultural heritage site. Now, with a pilgrim's pass, it's possible to choose the route through Ballenberg at a discounted price of CHF 10 in Brienzwiler. The new pilgrim's admission ticket costs CHF 14 and entitles visitors to explore the entire Ballenberg grounds. It is available upon presentation of a current pilgrim's pass or a pilgrim's guide ID card/name badge.
