Information about the association jakobsweg.ch
Starting in 1997, a project group in the Bernese Oberland took on the task of positioning and revitalizing the Way of St. James in Switzerland. In its early years, the project group was sponsored by the Bernese Oberland economy. Since 2008, this project work has been continued by the association "jakobsweg.ch." Together with partner organizations from Bavaria, Austria, South Tyrol, Poland, and the Czech Republic, the association makes a significant contribution to revitalizing pilgrimages on the Way of St. James in Switzerland and neighboring countries.
Through participation in the Camino Europe Community of Interest, the routes within Switzerland are seamlessly connected to the pan-European network of pilgrimage routes, thereby strengthening European cohesion and international understanding. The pilgrimage routes are thus never interrupted by political borders.
On the association's website (www.jakobsweg.ch), pilgrims can find information in several languages about the route in Switzerland and accommodation options along the way. The growing demand for guidance and support for pilgrim groups is met by offering transnationally trained pilgrim guides.
A particular concern of the association is to ensure that
- Pilgrims on the Way of St. James in the scenically and culturally unique Switzerland can experience nature with all their senses,
- on the pilgrimage a spirit of international understanding is experienced and encounters and friendships are formed on and along the way,
- the spiritual significance of the Way of St. James, which has developed over centuries, finds its own and contemporary expression in our present time.
The association carries out this work together with other actors on the Way of St. James who have come together in the Swiss Camino Interest Group (IG).
Our association still has much to do. Therefore, we invite former and current pilgrims, or those who want to support pilgrimages on the Way of St. James, to become members of our association.
