Thoughts on the way from Brunnen to Beckenried

From the diary of the pilgrim James

On Lake Lucerne, where (according to legend) the governor Gessler once wreaked havoc before the Swiss freedom hero William Tell shook off his rule and thus legitimized the founding of the Swiss Confederation, I opt for a boat. From Brunnen, I travel on an old saloon steamer to Treib. There's nothing to remind me that the lake throws meter-high waves in storms; nature certainly has the ability to show man what she's still capable of. From Treib, the path leads me along the Seerücken ridge via Volligen up to Emmetten. The wonderful view over Lake Lucerne and the original homeland of Switzerland makes up for the strenuous climb. On the way down to Beckenried, I visit the chapel along the way.

Food for thought

"I've happily crossed the lake to Treib. In the parish church in Beckenried, I discover a gravestone of a pilgrim on the Way of St. James." Quietly, I ask myself: "Where am I on my journey through life?"

As an angel, you walk my path through life with me. With your mercy, you guide my way. You know how longingly I long for you!
