Thoughts on the way from Herisau to Wattwil
Diary of the Pilgrim James
Refreshments in inns, a village fair where young people laugh and joke as they spin to the music, green hills – I feel: In Appenzellerland, I have found the idyllic setting I was hoping for on my pilgrimage – and one that makes up for aching feet and exhausted limbs. Here, I find even more: I meet like-minded people who, like me, are on the Way of St. James. "Where is your destination?" - "For now, in France. But later it's Santiago de Compostela," answers Fritz Huber. "To spend a month on the road as a pilgrim – that's my goal," says Sarah Berger. And soon we are discussing, laughing, and singing together on our pilgrimage.

Food for thought
"My pilgrimage leads me to St. Peterzell. Away from the hustle and bustle, the place resembles a monk's cell dedicated to St. Peter."
