Thoughts on the way from Kaiserstuhl to Brünig

Diary of the Pilgrim James

I reach the Brünighöhe via forest paths, Roman trails, and mountain meadows. I can't resist: I stop at the inn and treat myself to a plum cake and a steaming cup of coffee. Perfect refreshment before the steep descent ahead. It also gives me the opportunity to admire the magnificent waterfalls on the opposite rock faces of the Bernese Oberland.

Thoughts on the way

"The speeding motorcyclists and the screeching of brakes on the Brünigstrasse are acoustic signals of the hectic and fast-paced times we live in today. More than ever, I intend to slow down on the Way of St. James. It's really just a matter of getting your body, soul, and spirit accustomed to the pilgrim's daily rhythm. A rhythm determined primarily by your own heart rate, not by the engine's cadence."

Pilgrimage means involving body and soul in evangelical spirituality.
