Thoughts on the way from Lachen to Einsiedeln

Diary of the Pilgrim James

In a group and yet on your own path

Our small group of pilgrims stays together and climbs the mountain to St. Meinrad together. Conversations die down during the ascent, as everyone needs the space to contemplate the wonderful landscape but also to catch their breath. It's not until we reach the St. Meinrad Inn that we meet again for a conversation. Some talk about the strenuous climb, while others talk about the beautiful view of the lakes and mountains. Physical exertion isn't mentioned; steep climbs and long distances don't seem to be an issue for pilgrims without second thoughts.
I end the day with a short prayer in the dark Meinrad Chapel.

Before I face the pilgrimage atmosphere, characterized by piety but also by busy tourism, I enjoy the peace and quiet on the steps of the St. Gangulf Chapel.
