Sculpture Trail

Especially if you've already walked the Way of St. James and are looking to discover something new between Fribourg and Romont, the Matran Sculpture Trail is a tempting experience. It begins in the industrial area, but suddenly you're transported to another world, in a secluded river valley. A variety of sculptures on tree stumps line the path, stirring up imaginations and associations. You'll encounter mythical creatures, animals, and even a saint. Soon, you'll also come across a lovely picnic area.
If you really take the bait, you can even purchase a sculpture or watch the artist create one according to his own ideas (perhaps a St. James?).
At the end of the sculpture trail, follow the yellow signs to the Neyruz train station. We recommend bringing the following map with you: National Map of Switzerland, 1:25,000, Sheet 1205.

Starting point
From Matran train station (Fribourg – Lausanne line), follow the side streets for 1.2 km to the start of the sculpture trail (point 626).

Time required
Hike along the Sculpture Trail for approximately 1 hour, then approximately 30 minutes to the Neyruz station. If you continue walking for approximately 3 km, you'll reach the Way of St. James again at Ecuvillens.
