Thoughts on the way from Rorschach to Herisau
Diary of the Pilgrim James
I took a boat across Lake Constance to Rorschach in Switzerland, from where I resume my hike. I enjoy the beautiful and fertile Lake Constance region. My destination is Herisau. A glance back reveals the impressive splendor of the "Swabian Sea," as the lake in the border triangle is also called. But not back; my gaze is directed forward. Before me appears the dominating Säntis mountain, pointing the way and, thankfully, not requiring climbing.
Even on the climb to St. Gallen, my backpack is already weighing me down. I've brought far too much. So I'll be leaving behind unnecessary things in St. Gallen. I'll probably have to do without my cell phone, GPS, books, aftershave, spare shoes, and the extra clothing. If only I'd listened to experienced pilgrims!

Something to think about along the way
"On my pilgrimage, I come to the Martinstobel, where today the Martinsbrücke bridge crosses the deep gorge of the Steinach River. St. Gallen reminds me of a pilgrim from earlier times, Gallus the Messenger of Faith (612), who stumbled on a thorn bush and then remained in that place."
Withdraw into yourself as much as possible. You have to take time and reflect on yourself.
