Confirmation photos since 1914
Rüeggisberg is known to pilgrims primarily for the preserved parts of the former Cluniac priory. The once large and important monastery became impoverished in the 15th century and was closed after the Reformation.
However, the originally early Romanesque church of St. Martin attracts visitors with a special permanent exhibition.
Since the class of 1914, all confirmation classes have been photographed. All these photos are displayed chronologically in the church. The images have been similar for years. While the faces change, the pastor and confirmands are solemn, dressed in black, and uniformly. Eventually, the skirts become shorter, initially in lockstep, until the first girls wear trousers. Over the years, the choreography becomes more varied and freer. The first color images show an increasing loosening, almost to the point of seeming randomness, until in recent years the viewer seems to detect a tendency toward a return to traditional forms.
The image gallery can provide inspiration for a wide variety of discussion topics.
