Thoughts on the way from Allaman to Celigny

From the diary of the pilgrim James

The break in Nyon allows us to explore "old Nyon" and take a closer look at the ruins of the Roman settlements. A perfect day to relax and enjoy life! We treat ourselves to a glass of wine instead of water. Perhaps a second one in the evening. The castles, stately homes, and endless vineyards testify to the wealth of the Riviera on Lake Geneva. "I wonder if pilgrims were also served food at the servants' entrances in earlier times?" our companion Sarah asks skeptically. Today, cameras, guard dogs, and state-of-the-art alarm systems prevent us from even attempting to enter these little gardens of paradise. Tomorrow I will reach the provisional destination of my pilgrimage: Geneva. Sara and Fritz's paths diverge from mine.

For reflection on the way

“Walking through the vineyards is always a very special spiritual experience.”

Today, I allow myself to be touched by the fascinating beauty of creation, to recall the memory of being in safe hands between heaven and earth. Your life resembles a large garden. Some bloom lushly in the sun, others grow even in the shade. I wish you grateful wonder as you walk through it. Trust in the hymn of praise that—often drowned out and mocked—fills this reality.
